"Tea Drives Aways the Droops", 1936. Poster, color lithograph.
This reminds me of the hockey team photo in Jennifer Saunders’ book ‘Bonkers’.
These Wangaratta High School girls, circa 1970s, were photographed by the Le Dawn Photography Studios, whose collection is now in the State Library of Victoria. I love the naturalness of this pic, taken before school photo protocols involved being marshalled into straight lines immediately post-uniform inspection, and then given a once-over by Photoshop by some poor employee in a dungeon. I do believe somebody had just said, ‘Pull your socks up, girls!’. Judging by the hair styles, this was a brief moment of history before the Dolly Cut struck. Life would never be the same again. I shall also note in passing that there is hardly a woman over the age of 40 who would voluntarily put herself into box pleats and long white socks with the double-bouff pigtail unless serious money was scheduled to change hands..
